Welcome to Year 4

Home Learning During School Closure: Hayeswood First School

We have put together some information and website links to help you structure your child’s learning at home. Please note this is generic advice for all year groups, but there will be a class-specific link to download below as from Monday 23rd March 2020.

Daily activities

Here are some activities, which can be carried out on a daily basis (perhaps as part of a morning routine):

Reading: Daily reading of Home Reading books, common exception words and a ‘reading for pleasure’ book (can be read by, with or to the children);

Handwriting practice: Using the letter formation guide in Home Learning Books, practise writing high frequency words and/or common exception words (perhaps 3-5 words at a time). Write these focus words into sentences (age appropriate). Children could also choose a poem to write up in their best handwriting and illustrate;

Phonics play activity time: (10-15 mins) for Year R, Year 1 and Year 2 (see website link).

Times Tables practice: for Y2 (2s, 5s, 10s) Y3 (2s, 5s, 10s, 3s, 4s, 8s) and Y4 (all) – see website links;

Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s: (forwards and backwards) for Y1 and Y2;

Number Sense practice: number bonds to 20, one more and less, 10 more and less;

Book reviews after the reading of a book - this could be extended to profile one or more of the main characters;

Daily exercise: Twitter: @getset4PE (daily active task for the whole family to complete!)

All pupils have now been set up with a Google Classroom account - this is an online interactive learning platform. Instructions for parents on the setup and use of Google classroom can be downloaded below.
